You will learn professional jewellery-making skills including:
– Use of professional trade tools: jeweller's saw and files, dapping block and punch set and emery paper.
– The complex process of jewellery silver soldering.
– Conceptual jewellery design skills.
This workshop is suitable for beginners and has a strong focus on design and creativity. We’ll steer clear of cookie-cutter production and allow room for you to design meaningful and beautiful pieces of wearable art that are as unique as you are
The materials cost will be $160 per participant for materials which will cover the first three days while you make your pendant, ring and earrings/cufflinks as well as your self-directed projects for the remaining two days.
Carl is a conceptual jewellery artist and qualified visual arts teacher. He designs unique jewellery objects and teaches others to do the same. His work, Symbiosis (Dodecahedron Pendant), was a finalist in the 2014 National Contemporary Jewellery Award.
After graduating from Sydney College of the Arts (Sydney Uni) with a degree in Fine Arts/ Object Art and Design (Jewellery), Carl completed a Bachelor of Education and went on to pursue a career in visual arts, teaching at NSW’s only visual arts and design specialist high school. In addition to his classroom experience, Carl is the founder and presenter of Silversmith School, taking his mobile jewellery studio around Australia and teaching silversmith workshops for adults and kids. He is also a guest workshop presenter with the Powerhouse Museum. Carl’s experience as both conceptual jewellery designer and visual arts teacher positions him with the unique ability to draw extraordinary jewellery pieces from his students. He has the capacity to facilitate a positive and fun working environment while connecting students to trade jewellery techniques and artist’s process.
