Japanese Brush Painting

Students will explore and experiment with traditional, contemporary and creative techniques of Japanese Brush Painting.

During the course we will cover an introduction to the Oriental studio – brushes, ink and rice paper. Students will learn basic brushstrokes, calligraphy, subjects of the summer season and bamboo.

Riki Allsop

Riki Allsop

Riki was born in Austria. Art and music were encouraged in Riki's childhood.

Riki found her passion for Oriental Ink Painting in the 1980's in Japan. Studying art and textiles at Nakayama Kobo in Tokyo Riki gained valuable experience with a variety of materials and art styles. Followed by  studying and working with various teachers and artists in Australia and Japan. ( Richard Liddicut, Andre Sollier, Andrew Lo, Iseko Arai )

In the 1990's Riki lived in Bellingen and taught Ink Brush Painting from her studio. These delightful years are fondly remembered and one of Riki's highlights. 

Riki is a practicing artist living on the Mid North Coast of N.S.W.

Riki is involved with the local art community and her works can be found in private and public collections in Australia, Europe and Japan.

Course Requirements

All equipment and materials are provided for this course and material cost of $30 payable to tutor at commencement of the course. If you have your own equipment for Ink Brush Painting please bring it along!
