This course will take you on a journey to uncover all the elements that make for successful event photography coverage and will leave you with a swag of tools to take your event photography to the next level! You will learn everything from what gear to take on location, mapping out and planning your event coverage, interpreting and executing a media brief, to exploring creative approaches to effectively photographing people and discovering your photographic style.

From interpreting a brief to output of your images, you will walk away with an understanding of the fundamentals of covering an event allowing you to tell your story, your way.

Highlights include:

  • On location person tuition by AIPP accredited Professional Photographer Louise Walpole
  • Learn to think more creatively and “outside of the box” in relation to your image production. Discovering what you love most about taking pictures and explore what makes up your own personal photographic style.

Louise is an AIPP accredited professional photographer with twenty years experience photographing large scale arts, music and cultural events such as The National Folk Festival, as well as private events and weddings.

Louise believes that the way we choose to communicate is a major part of effectively taking authentic and engaging images of people and place.


Course Requirements

Course Requirements

Skill Level Required:  Suitable for advanced amateur photographers.

If you are not comfortable with using a DSLR camera, this is not the course for you and basic knowledge of aperture, shutter speed and ISO is essential

Fitness Level / Difficulty:  Easy /Moderate. Some guided and self-paced walking and photographing on site will be required.

Equipment / Clothing Required:

  • DSLR or Camera or equivalent. Film format cameras are absolutely encouraged but in order to give daily critiquing, a DSLR or equivalent will be required. We’d love to see what you can come up with other formats as well as smartphones! Please bring along your tools of choice and shoot them all.
  • Sturdy, comfortable walking shoes
  • An umbrella and suitable clothing for wet and dry weather conditions
  • You will be required to upload daily challenge images to a private Facebook group for critiquing so access to a Laptop, personal PC or other device is required.
  • Facebook account to participate in group discussions and image sharing

Handy but not essential

  • Smart Phone. This will enable participants to take photos and submit to Camp creative in real time and be showcased on Instagram throughout the week.
