Get your hands dirty in this exploration into the world of Ceramics.
This hands-on course will have you digging up our local red clay from the river and discovering the difference between many types of local and purchased clay. We will incorporate local materials in creative ways in our pinch pots, coil pots and slap construction techniques. We will also have the opportunity to learn how to throw pots on the wheel.
We will explore surface techniques eg slips, stains, oxides, sgrafto etc
Our creations will be glazed and fired the week after Camp Creative finishes due to technical limitations of clay. I will glaze and fire the work and students will be able to collect fnished pots or have them posted to their location.
Discover the sensuous pleasure of working with this beautiful medium.
Nick graduated RMIT in 2009 with a BA (Photography), before moving into ceramics in 2012, studying in Melbourne and Sydney, and apprenticing with some expert potters including Prue Venables and Sandy Lockwood. He moved to Bellingen in 2016, and has been working and teaching ceramics locally since then. His approach is exploratory and wide reaching, working with natural materials and looking to the landscape and the ocean for inspiration.
There is a cost of $15 to cover a 20kg bag of clay. This is payable to the tutor on the first day of camp.
Students can bring
any clay they have access to at their homes or accommodation.
