If African drumming is your passion or something you've always wanted to try then come and join us! Connect with the ancient language of rhythm, share in the strength, harmony and universal power of the drum.

You will learn traditional African drumming for djembe and dun duns plus songs and chants that accompany the rhythms, as well as drum technique, body percussion and the art of improvisation for the more advanced students. This African drumming course, helps boost enthusiasm and positivity, and encourages students to feel good about themselves by creating an atmosphere of fun, success, and being part of something special.

More about the course

You will learn traditional African drumming for djembe, dun duns and Bougarabou plus the many hand percussion instruments parts.

We will also learn the songs and chants that accompany the rhythms and along with their cultural significants.

During the course we will be work on your drumming technique for the drums you are using as well as body percussion and for the more advanced students, the art of improvisation.

You will also learn Afro Brazilian Samba and we will rock and rove the streets of Bellingen Carnival style.

We will be performing atThursday's Party in the Park and also at the Grand Finale concert on Friday night.

If you don't have your own drum you can use ours for a small fee or buy one of our amazing handmade traditional African Drums.

Chinta Reiss

Chinta Reiss

Chinta Reiss is a dynamic group facilitator, teacher and performing artist, with over 15 year’s experience in these fields. Chinta inspires greatness in his students and work shop participants. With his enthusiastic friendly style, Chinta has a proven ability to work successfully with any size group creating an uplifting rhythm charged experience.

Through a powerful set of dreams, his path led him to West Africa where he studied Djembe and was immersed in West African Culture. Chinta has studied drumming in Gambia, West Africa and Zimbabwe and with teachers Chris Berry from Panjea, Pape M’baye from Senegal, and other African Drum masters. Being a creative artist he is now composing a lot of his own rhythms based on his knowledge of African music. He has performed with several African Artists such as Jean Paul Wobotai, Valanga Khoza and Panjea and has an interactive drumming company www.Rhythmconnect.com. This course is for both the serious drummer and those who have always wanted to be one but never had the opportunity… here is your chance!!
