Film Making for Kids

This course gets its participants to devise and as a group create a short film with a focus on story boarding, performing, writing and filming techniques.

This course also involves drama and performance elements and is a great opportunity to show off their acting flair in front of the camera.

More about the course

The students together create a group short film idea, film it and take it home to share with friends and family. It’s fun, hands on filmmaking for all to enjoy.

Kate Fincher

Kate Fincher

Kate Fincher grew up in Maitland and has been involved in various musical and drama productions at Hunter School of Performing Arts and in Maitland theatre groups.

She has completed a Bachelors Degree of Communication at Charles Sturt University in Theatre and Media. Whilst at University she participated in creating makeup and costume design for a variety of shows. She was Festival designer for the 2014 Sprung festival in Bathurst for her third year major work. Since returning from University she has worked as a stage manager and assisted with the productions in Newcastle..

Kate has undertaken further study in film at Hunter Institute of TAFE Newcastle, in Screen and Media. Kate has been interested in film and theatre for many years and has produced short films at Maitland Public School and Morpeth Public School.

Kate has worked with Morpeth Public School to submit a storyboard entry for Hunter Water’s “Water Catchers “short film competition. The school has been selected as a finalist. This will result in their storyboard being filmed and voted on by the public. In 2016 the school received second place for their entry. Kate currently works for a corporate events company in Sydney that specialize in setting up and running audio and visual equipment in venues all around the city.


Course Requirements

  • A USB which is Mac compatible
  • A note pad and pens
  • Coloured pencils, sharpener

Not a necessity but more than welcome to learn using their own tools if they wish to bring a camera capable of filming, in formats MP4, MOV, Quicktime
