This course is an introduction to the four treasures of Sumi -E: Ink, Ink stone, Brushes and Papers.
The practice of calligraphy is a great way of learning brush skills. Students will study and explore the brushstrokes needed to paint Bamboo, Orchid, Plum and Chrysanthemums, as well as touch on contemporary and creative styles of Ink Painting.
During the week we also learn the traditional process of stretching a painting onto another sheet of rice paper to make the artwork more durable and ready for display or framing.
Riki was born in Austria. Art and music were encouraged in Riki's childhood.
Riki found her passion for Oriental Ink Painting in the 1980's in Japan. Studying art and textiles at Nakayama Kobo in Tokyo Riki gained valuable experience with a variety of materials and art styles. Followed by studying and working with various teachers and artists in Australia and Japan. ( Richard Liddicut, Andre Sollier, Andrew Lo, Iseko Arai )
In the 1990's Riki lived in Bellingen and taught Ink Brush Painting from her studio. These delightful years are fondly remembered and one of Riki's highlights.
Riki is a practicing artist living on the Mid North Coast of N.S.W.
Riki is involved with the local art community and her works can be found in private and public collections in Australia, Europe and Japan.
All equipment and materials are provided for this course and material cost of $30.- payable to tutor at commencement of the course. If you have your own equipment for Ink Brush Painting please bring it along!
