5 Elements Dance

5 Element dance allows us to feel nature’s energies, and this five-day experience will give you a foundation to connect to yourself in an authentic, honest way. Move through the Elements of Earth, Water, Fire, Air and Space and enjoy nature’s forces moving through your body.

Moving from the solid support of Earth, into the shape-shifting nature of Water, to the explosive, transformative power of Fire, the randomness of Wind into the serene certainty of Spirit, this course is a light-hearted way to become more embodied, to explore new ways of unchoreographed movement.

Each day we will take time to share ideas about the qualities and role of each Element and how we can see them expressed in nature.

Using the 5 Elements as a foundation, you will move through the Elements of Earth, Water, Fire, Wind and Space/Spirit in this five-day course.

Each day, we will explore how each of the Elements strives to be expressed through our bodies. Using simple warm-ups and exercises targeting the bodies’ medicinal energy lines to awaken the energies of the Elements, you will experience the different qualities of nature’s forces.

You’ll need to be able to move comfortably for an hour and a half per day – at your own level of intensity.

Together with suggestively created musical playlists and creative visualizations inspired by Nature’s dynamic interactions, you will be guided into the experience of the subtle qualities which the Elements provide within us.

Listening to nature’s wisdom allows us to fully express all parts of ourselves, and this five-day experience will give you a foundation to connect to yourself in an authentic, honest way.

Moving from the solid support of the Earth, into the shapeshifting nature of Water, to the explosive, transformative power of Fire, the randomness of Wind into the serene certainty of Spirit, this course is a light-hearted way to become more embodied, to explore new ways of moving, without having to follow and learn a choreography. It is really about enjoying Nature moving through your body.

Each day, before the movement practices start, we will have time to share our personal ideas and knowledge about the qualities and role of each Element as a group and see where our ideas line up as well as differ. On a more theoretical level, looking through an Eastern as well as a Shamanic perspective of the Elements, you will learn where their energy lines are in the body, to which body parts they are connected, what qualities they carry, and how to creatively use these energies for your own personal expression.

Whether you are completely new to dance and movement, or are a skilled dancer, this experience will give you new perspectives on movement and how to use your direct experience of the Elements in Nature as an inspiration for creative self-expression.

As this course aims to make this experience approachable for everyone, the intensity of the physical experience is a personal choice, as you can decide for yourself how to move your body. No matter how small or big, intense or gentle your movement is, how deep you go into this journey is decided by your own intention, not by your dance abilities.

Summer Salt

Summer grew up with a passion for dance and movement and explored several different styles, including; African dance, hip-hop, Gaga dance (an improvisation technique), and contemporary dance.

Having always been a passionate nature lover and surfer, Summer started studying 5 Element modalities at eighteen in the Netherlands, where she first studied and practised Zen Shiatsu.

Inspired by the supportive energies of nature’s cycles and rhythms, she started using her studies as a framework for movement-based expression and healing.

Then she completed intensive Elemental yoga training, which opened up a new language and connection with nature and the elements, transforming her understanding of the body through healthy creative self-expression.

She fell in love with the Elemental Therapy system and studied Elemental yoga, yoga therapy and nutrition for several years, during which she wrote and taught these dance practices.

Summer now runs the international Elemental Yoga School, certifying students to teach yoga therapy.

Three years ago, Summer moved to the Dorrigo area, where she now teaches 5 Element Dance and community and private yoga classes, offering treatments in Zen Shiatsu and several forms of energy work. Her work has endeared her to the local art community, where she works as a model for sculptors and painters.

Through all these different experiences, Summer has created her unique approach to dance and loves to see how different people connect to it in their own way.
