Day One

Understanding Values
On the first day, we will learn how to paint with realism and depth by studying values. We will do a series of small sketches using values to represent our subject.

Day Two

Colour & Colour Mixing
One of the biggest challenges for painters getting started is understanding colour, the colour wheel, and how to mix colour, saturation, and temperature of colour.

We will explore these subjects and do a series of small colour studies.

Day Three

Basics of Landscape Painting
On day three, we will be ready to do our first landscape painting.

We will choose an easy subject demonstrating Aerial Perspective, which is the key to getting depth into your landscape paintings.

Plus, we will look at the importance of composition and design. Your paintings will produce much better results with the right compositional structure and design.

Day Four

Impressionist Landscape Painting
On day four, we will explore painting our landscapes in an impressionist style, drawing from the French Impressionist and the Heidelberg School of Australian Impressionists, and complete a classic Australian Landscape with an impressionistic feel.

Day Five

Seascapes & Headlands
On day five, we will turn our attention to painting seascapes with a dramatic headland and rock face. This will introduce further techniques, such as using the palette knife.

At the conclusion of this five-day course, you will have greatly expanded your knowledge and awareness of how to paint in the impressionist style with oils.

Plus, you will walk away with a number of small studies and finished paintings that you will be proud to hang on the wall.

No experience is necessary – for beginner to intermediate level artists

Rod Moore

Rod Moore is a full-time contemporary Australian Landscape Artist and the founder of the Learn To Paint Academy, with more than 95,000 students globally. He specialises in teaching beginner to intermediate-level artists in oils, gouache and acrylics.

He has been teaching for a decade following the creation of the TV shows Plein Air Painting, and Yes You Can Paint TV, which was broadcast nationally around Australia from 2012 – to 2015.

From his Noosa Studio, Rod teaches regular workshops and also conducts workshops with other organisations around Australia, including Woodford Folk Festival and Wisteria Cottage Fine Art Studio.

Rod has worked hard over the last ten years to develop a method of teaching students known as the Moore Method of Painting, which greatly simplifies the painting process down into simple, easy-to-follow steps – 3 Colours, 3 Brushes, and 3 Steps. His students rapidly improved once they started using this simplified approach to painting.

Interest in Rod’s work from collectors globally has been growing, with his paintings now in private collections around the world and numerous corporate and institutional collections.
