Harp for Beginners

Have you always wanted to play the harp? Or like to extend your skills? Don't be intimidated by this beautiful instrument - this simple and enjoyable learning experience will teach you playing techniques and develop your repertoire. The ability to read sheet music is not required.

Learn popular songs and have fun with improvisation and jazz techniques. Join intermediate harpists, wannabe harpists and ‘always wanted to try harpists’ to learn and share the joy of this beautiful instrument.

For those looking to extend their skills, Judy will also teach how to read from a lead sheet, chord symbols, glissandi skills and improvisation.

Course Info

For those looking to extend their skills, Judy will also teach how to read from a lead sheet, chord symbols, glissandi skills and improvisation.

Each day you’ll do exercises designed to release tension from the body and create a richer sound from your harp.
Judy will also cover good practice skills and basic harp maintenance and tuning.
 
This course requires you to own or hire a harp. A limited number of harps are available for loan. If bringing your harp, please ensure it is fully insured.

From beginners to advanced players

A harp and a yoga mat, a notebook and pen and a folder for additional worksheets.

Please bring your own seat if you are not comfortable using a standard chair.

Supplied by the tutor

Judy has three small harps available for hire, but it is preferable for students to have their own harp. Hire is $50 for the week.

Judy Collins

Judy Collins has been a harpist for fifteen years and is a wedding and special occasions harpist as well as playing regularly in her local community. Judy is also a qualified Harp Therapy practitioner.

She has been a yoga and pilates teacher for the past fifteen years and was a music appreciation teacher to kindergarten and preschool children for ten years.
