Please read all course information below before purchasing tickets for this event.

  • DAY ONE

    Familiarisation/meet & greet including a brief q & a.

The purpose of this initial session will be to get to know each other a little and to address questions you may have before we settle into things.

After the morning break we'll take a look at our camera settings. We'll discuss automated & manual settings, raw vs jpg, ISO, exposure & more. This session is about coming to a fuller understanding of your camera's settings and how to best utilise them to achieve specific outcomes.

After lunch we'll head into the field to shoot a few assignments designed to consolidate our learning from the morning. Generally we'll wrap each day with a brief session back in the classroom reflecting upon our experiences from the practical.

Over the week Camp Creative has events and ongoing activities that provide us with an enormous variety of interesting photographic subject matter right on our doorstep. We will be taking advantage of the diverse offerings at CC to provide us will all the convenient subject matter we could ask for.

    DAY TWO

We'll start each day now with a review of the work we shot the day before. This will commence with our image management/selection, post processing & output/archiving.

On subsequent days during this session we'll consolidate these practical aspects of working with images however we'll begin to reflect more upon the creative application of what we've been learning.

Today's focus will be on composition. What are the principles... Rule of thirds, golden mean, centre of interest, high key/low key, subject failure, camera angles & lens selection, etc.

In today’s afternoon session we'll again put to practice the principles learnt this morning.

    DAY THREE

    Day 2 review.

Today we'll look at lighting. This is an enormous subject that we'll endeavour to learn in a day and that we'll spend a lifetime trying to master.

Light is to a photographer what paint is to an artist. We'll look at what light sources are available to us and how we can make the most of them.

Colour temperature. Natural vs artificial light sources. KISS principle. Main light/fill light/key light, etc.

After lunch we'll again put to practice the principles learnt this morning.

    DAY FOUR

    Day 3 review.

After our morning break we'll examine the idea of shooting with intention.

The application of good camera technique combined with our understanding of composition & lighting allows us to construct the ideal circumstances to execute our ideas. This includes equipment selection/settings, resources, talent, timing, etc.

It starts with an idea. What are we trying to communicate? Emotion is the key to engagement from our audience.

We'll examine a few scenarios and discuss what resources we'll require. Good preparation is the key to a smooth shoot and a great outcome.

Be open to 'happy accidents' & letting things develop a life of their own i.e. loosen your grip and roll with it. Why do we say that films cheap?

In today’s afternoon session we'll again put to practice the principles learnt this morning.

    DAY FIVE

    Day 4 review.

We've covered a lot over the last 4 days so today we're going to review it all.

It's your chance to pick Stuart's brain, drill down into things and clarify anything that's a bit fuzzy and wind it all up on a high.

  • Please bring the following on your first day of class:

Stuart Scott

Stuart is a working professional with over 30 years experience.

After completing a 4yr diploma in photography and working as a camera assistant for the Names Agency and other leading commercial photographers Stuart embarked on his own career as 'In House' photographer for David Jones in the first half of the 90's. David Jones were in their heyday and Stuart worked hand in glove with the advertising and visual merchandising departments on a diverse range of assignments from catalogues to big budget productions for iconic DJ's events.

Following this period Stuart launched his own studio in North Sydney where he was immediately in demand from a range of retailers, advertising agencies and magazines wanting the 'David Jones' look. Clients over this period included Amex, Qantas, Cunard, Commonwealth Bank, ANZ Bank, Nestle to mention a few. Magazine & book publishers included Interiors, House & Garden, Selector magazines, Womans Weekly, Hardie Grant , Murdoch & Harlequin books.

His work has taken him throughout Australia & around the world. Since 2016 Stuart & his partner Mindy have resided on their farm near Bellingen where they are semi retired and run their B&B and 'farm a little'. Stuart is primarily shooting architectural work locally & in Sydney which satisfies his alter ego as a frustrated builder.
