Welcome to the Creative Eco Warriors Program for kids.

Here we will spend the week exploring local natural materials and experimenting with how they can be used in creative ways. Through creative arts processes, mindfulness, and movement, we'll help your children develop deeper connections to nature, each other and themselves. Encouraging a healthy awareness of the importance of caring for our environment.

During this exciting week, we’ll utilise natural materials to create several eco-friendly projects. Including making our very own natural paint brushes, stamps and naturally dyed textiles. Your child will have the opportunity to make a range of special take-home keepsakes.

At the end of the week, we’ll present a thoughtful gallery space where your child can showcase their creations and invite their special people to create one final interactive natural material mandala. Our workshop is a fun and safe space for children to explore their creativity freely through process art. It’s also a great opportunity for them to make new friends and build lasting connections.

We will be collecting natural materials in the lead-up (and during) the workshop, a materials fee will cover the cost of dying and printing. We can’t wait to see your child unleash their inner eco-warrior.

  • DAY ONE

    Intro day!

We’ll spend the day getting to know each other.

Our morning will start off with mindful movement and icebreaker games.

We’ll have an intro to our art journals and a main art lesson of natural clay. We will create clay creatures that represent our inner eco-warriors and discuss how we can all play our part in taking care of the earth, as well as free art play time in the afternoon.

    DAY TWO

We’ll start off our day with creative movement and discussions about how natural materials can be transformed in to amazing creative tools.

Each child will make their own set of paintbrushes out of natural materials found locally.

We will create a collaborative mural to be the backdrop of our gallery space on the final day.

    DAY THREE

The day will start out with mindful movement to music and self esteem boosting games.

Our art lesson for the day will be making a series of handmade stamps out of mixed materials. We will then explore different techniques of print making to finally print our very own tote/library bags.

In the afternoon we will start to plan our gallery opening and end the day with art prompts in our journals and free art play.

    DAY FOUR

We will start our day with creative movement to music and an exploration of newly introduced natural materials.

For our art lesson we will make naturally dyed socks or scarves, we will use this time to discuss sustainability and how natural materials can be used in a wide range of ways.

Our little eco warriors will then try their hand at creating eco shields and wings out of natural and recycled materials.

    DAY FIVE

    Our final day!

We will work together to curate our gallery space. We will explore the workshop grounds and forage for natural materials to create our shared mandala.

This will be finished off with our loved ones. We will present what we have made to our special people and discuss some of the process and materials used.

We’ll spend a lot of time reflecting on what we have come to know about being eco-warriors and the new friendships we have made!

Bronwyn and Miranda are Masters qualified Creative Arts Therapists (registered with ANZACATA). They are passionate about working with sustainable, recycled and natural materials.

This week-long workshop combines elements of nature-based therapy, art therapy and group dynamics. The facilitators hope to spark a newfound curiosity in the participants for the natural world, utilising found materials in new and exciting creative ways. Bronwyn has worked in the field of creative arts her whole life, first studying fashion and costume design. Her exposure to the unsustainable and ethical issues surrounding commercial clothing production led Bronwyn to begin seeking an alternative career path. Since this time Bronwyn has re-trained completing a Masters of Art Therapy qualification in 2019. Combining her love for the arts and heartfelt community connection has inspired her to open the Happymess Studio located in the heart of Bellingen with fellow art therapist Miranda Cull. Bronwyn has a multi-modal approach to working with young people, integrating mindfulness, breathing techniques and movement alongside art-making activities. She enjoys working with people using creative modalities to build confidence, support with social skills, encouraging a sense of community.

Miranda has a background of working with both adults and young people using arts based practices to connect others to a greater sense of self. She has been involved in many creative projects from community garden designs that implement horticulture therapy practices to developing creative programs in primary and secondary schools. Miranda completed her Masters in Art Therapy in Melbourne and has been on a passionate journey of supporting others to explore and nurture their innate sense of creativity. She is now bringing these skills and passions back to where she grew up and is excited for the offering of Happymess studio along side Bronwyn.

Miranda thrives using natural materials in her artistic exploration and loves watching children's imagination go wild when they are left to create from what they discover in the world around them. Miranda is passionate about inspiring young people to create from a place of sustainability - she incorporates this in to all of her creative and work endeavours.
