The Sister Act - Favourite Songs from Movies & Musicals
Our course will be very exciting as we know how engaged children are in the songs they hear in Movies and Musicals.
Students will help select the songs they would like to sing most over the 5 days, and Kath and I will guide them with emphasis on vocal and performance skills. Students will have opportunities to sing solos and in small groups.
There will be lots of singing in parts and exploding into energetic choruses!
The morning sessions will involve singing and choreography and in the afternoon, we can put the songs in context and enjoy some musicals/movies to sing a long to whilst gobbling popcorn and the odd choc-top!
AGE: Suitable for ages 8 to 12
SKILL LEVEL: Intermediate - Suited to those who have some experience, but are looking to learn new techniques and explore more complex projects.
SCHEDULE: Full Days - Monday 13 to Friday 17 January 2025 - 9:00 am to 4:00 pm

DAY ONE
Listen to prepared solos performances from students
Get to know one another through musical games and start selection of songs. Focus on one.
Watch excerpts from Encanto and Matilda
DAY TWO
Games and vocal warm-ups.
Polish first and begin new songs
Add actions and movement
DAY THREE
Warm Ups/ rehearsal
Sing, Sing and Sing some more
Movie-The Lion King
DAY FOUR
Possibly working on 5/6 songs at this stage
Solos work with microphones
Afternoon concert for each other
Students encouraged to analyse their performances and develop strategies for improvement
Select three best songs for the Friday Performance
DAY FIVE
Polish morning
Staging, acting, dress rehearsal
Performance!

Children can prepare their favorite song from a Musical or Movie to sing to us on the first day! (Optional, of course)

Kath and I grew up on the stage and performed in our high school musicals in Tamworth. This continued to the Musical Societies of the towns and cities in which we lived.
We are both strong advocates of the power singing has to lift spirits and wire brains! We love working with children in the Bellingen District and have enabled hundreds of singers over the years to be part of choirs that perform for Anzac day, the Show, the Coffs Eisteddfod and The Opera House.
Kath and I have been Music Specialists and singing teachers for life. We both presently teach in Bellingen at St Mary's Primary as well as Orama and Repton Public Schools.
